These file folder activities have been super helpful in providing added practice with targeted phonics skills. They are perfect for independent centers! There’s a little bit of assembly required, but once laminated the file folders will last for years and years! To keep the file folders organized I picked up these handy file folder storage units at our local Office Max. They store all the file folders so nicely and fit easily on a shelf. It’s quick and easy to find the file folder activity you want!
There are quite a few word cards for each activity so it’s pretty important to keep the cards with the correct folder. To help with the organization I color-coded the borders of the word cards to the color of the file folder (no worries, the specific assembly instructions with the color coding system are described in the directions). To keep the word cards with the folder simply place the cards in a baggie and adhere to the file folder with a brass clasp. Just put in a dry erase marker and all the materials are ready for use.
Now there are two file folder phonics bundles. The first bundle contains activities for long vowel spelling patterns, vowel digraphs and consonant + le. The organization of each file folder activity is pretty consistent. The first activity is a word sorting activity where the student reads the word and then places the word in the correct area.
The writing words activity is an extension of the word sort as your student then writes the word in the correct box. Writing the words helps to solidify the phonics concept.
Students are provided a word bank and then completes the sentences on the back of the file folder. That’s three activities on one file folder!
The File Folder Phonics Bundle contains activities for the following phonics concepts: ar/or/ore/oar, consonant+le, oi/oy, ou/u, oo/ew/ue/ui, er/ir/ur, a/ai/y, e/ee/ea/y, o/oa/ow and i/ie/igh/y.
All 10 file folders activities are available in a bundle! You can download the File Folder Phonics Bundle from my online Teachers Pay Teachers Store or through the Make, Take & Teach website.
The Even More! File Folder Phonics Bundle contains 13 file folder activities for a little more advanced phonics skills. The set of the activities vary a bit from the original bundle but each contains a sorting and writing component. One of my favorite file folder activities is the contractions!
In this bundle the spelling/phonics rule is listed within the file folder. Just take a peep in the upper left hand corner of this picture.
The skills addressed in the Even More! File Folder Phonics Bundle include: contractions, the FLOSS rule, doubling rule, adding -s/-ing, past tense -ed, sounds of -ed, plurals (add -s, add -s or -es, change y to i).
Even More File Folder Phonics can also be found in my online Teachers Pay Teachers store or through the Make, Take & Teach website!
