Why buy Playdoh when you can make your own? I love making and using homemade playdough as you can make a large batch, it’s softer and the colors are so much more vibrant. There are many, many recipes for making your own. Some require cooking and not others. After trying tons of recipes I found the ones that require cooking to be the best! It’s a little more work, but it’s so well worth it. So, here’s my absolute favorite recipe:
You will need flour, vegetable oil, cream of tartar, salt, water and food coloring.
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 Tablespoons of cream of tartar
1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 cup of water
Food coloring
First mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a pan. Add the water and mix well. Now cook the mixture over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes. You’ll need to stir constantly until the mixture becomes firm.
When the mixture is firm, remove from the pan and knead until soft. Now just add in the food coloring. I like to use the Wilton food coloring because I find that the colors are so vibrant.
I made orange, yellow, red and green playdough for fall. Just for fun I ordered these small cookie cutters on Amazon. Not only are there cutters for leaves, but there are flowers and raindrops as well for use during spring!
