It just hit me one day! I was cleaning the basement and came across a whole stack of old Disney movies. I just couldn’t throw them away- oh, the memories. What could I do with all those movies? Okay, maybe it’s not the best solution for the movies themselves, but the CASES! Perfect for storing activities! My teacher friends are always looking for ways to store their activities. These old video cases are absolutely perfect! It kind of became an obsession–well, not “kind of”- it became a big obsession. I decided to create 17 different activities which could fit in these cases.
I had about 10 cases so I had to hop on over to the Habitat for Humanity Restore to pick up the remaining 7. You can find the cases at any second-hand shop or you can even order them through eBay. They are super cheap! I guess everyone by now has DVDs. Here’s Lizzie (daughter) sorting through the cases to find the cases in the best shape.
You can absolutely store the activities in baggies or in other containers, but if you choose to use the VHS cases, you’ll have to be sure to get the right cases. The cases are pretty popular so you won’t have a problem finding them. They are the soft covers with two large open areas. I find that the Disney movies use these cases.
So here’s the really cool part. I made the directions sheet to fit on the inside cover. The other section holds your activity with any needed materials. You just store the cases on a shelf- grab and go! You’ll have everything you need. Here’s a picture of Activities to Go! Blending. When you download this activity you’ll receive 44 race tracks. I love how the race car fits so nicely in the case.
Here’s the Activities to Go! Consonant Digraphs activity. For this activity, students either circle or write the correct digraph on the card with a dry erase marker. Again, all the materials are right there in the case. These activities are great for classroom volunteers or support personnel- they can just grab the case and begin working with a student.
Well, here’s all 17 activities– from rhyme to vowel teams–stacked neatly on a shelf.
You can find all 17 activities in my online Teachers Pay Teachers store.
