Eyeball Bingo!

They’re back!!! I was shopping at the Dollar Tree last week and again found these super cute eyeball ping pong balls. A few years back I created the Eyeball Bingo activity for my first grade friends just learning to read CVC words. I thought it’d make a fun Halloween themed activity. If you’d like this activity just download the FREE game boards and write the CVC words on the eyeballs using a permanent Sharpie marker (I’ve included the list on the directions page).  While at the Dollar Tree I picked up this Halloween themed witches’ cauldron to store the balls. Of course you can use bingo chips for this activity, but if you have a Michael’s Craft Store near you,

Halloween Freebie!

It’s always fun to add a little holiday fun into your small group instruction. I love the 4-In-A-Row activity as it’s a fast paced activity which allows for lots of practice opportunities. Playing this game is pretty simple. Each student will need about 15 bingo chips of the same color. Players take turns solving the problem and placing their colored chip on the square. The first player to have 4 of their colored chip in a row wins the game. There are four different Halloween themed game boards in this download. To add a little bit of Halloween fun, I found these felt eyeballs at Michael’s Craft Store. So instead of using bingo chips the kiddos can use these!

Scarecrow Alphabet Activities!

I’m just lovin’ creating activities with these little scarecrows that Kyle made. They are simply perfect for fall themed centers. Last week I made the Scarecrow Activity for CVC Words for my first grade friends so this week I thought I’d create an activity just for kindergarten.  Many of my five and six year old friends are learning the letters and sounds alphabet so these two activities will add a little fall themed fun! There are two different activities. The first activity contains 25 scarecrow letters with pictures containing their beginning sounds. You can differentiate the activity by choosing which and how many scarecrows to use. Just place the scarecrows and the pictures on the table and have your students match

Halloween Themed Sight Word Activities!

The Climb & Slide has been a favorite literacy center activity. This game is a variation of Chutes and Ladders and it offers a fun way to practice sight words. There’s a little bit of assembly required, but once laminated, the games will last for years. To assemble the activity, simply print the the templates on office paper and glue to a file folder. I color-coordinated the three game boards per Dolch sight word list, but any old file folder will do. These game board were specifically designed for Halloween, but I bet the kiddos will be asking to play this game all year long! The Halloween Climb & Slide Dolch Sight Words activity can be found in my online Teachers

Candy Corn Activities for Rhyme and the Alphabet!

These candy corn activities have certainly been a hit for fall-themed centers! They are perfect for our kindergarten and first grade kiddos just learning the concept of rhyme and sound-symbol correspondence. For sure you’ll want to differentiate this activity by choosing how many and which candy corns to use within your centers. When you download the Candy Corn Rhyme activity you will receive 24 candy corn rhyme pieces. Students match the rhyming pictures. A few of my teacher friends shared that they added a self-checking feature by placing three of the same stickers on the back of each rhyming candy corn. Brilliant! The Candy Corn Rhyme activity is available in my Teachers Pay Teachers store or through the Make, Take &

Long Vowel Sounds Spelling Patterns Write-It Phonics Cards

I’ve certainly received tons of feedback on our Write-It Phonics Cards line. The original Write-It Phonics Cards Bundle contained card packets for addressing phonics skills from beginning sounds to r-controlled vowels.  This bundle is just an extension and addresses the long vowel sound spelling patterns. Teachers just love that they can be used over and over again when laminated. They are perfect for independent practice in centers or for introducing a spelling pattern during small group instruction. As with the original bundle, each set can be purchased separately, however, if you really like the cards the bundle is the way to go.  Simply print the cards (I printed mine on card stock), laminate and then bind them together with a loose

Football Themed Sight Word Activities

The leaves are turning colors (at least here in Northern Michigan) and there is a crispness to the air that can only mean one thing. It’s football season! Many of our kiddos are football fans and it’s always fun incorporating their interests into classroom learning activities. This football themed bundle contains several hands-on activities for learning and practicing sight words (I use the Dolch 220 sight words). The activities allow for differentiation as they are leveled by difficulty.  It’s perfect for your fall themed centers! Just for a storage idea, I used these file folder containers purchased at Office Max. All the file folder game boards as well as the other activities store perfectly. Kyle (my artist) created these adorable game board

Beginning of the Year Inspiration!

One of my teacher friends had this quote hanging above her computer.  Every Monday when I visited her classroom I would make it a point read the quote.  It  just set the tone for my week and was a gentle reminder of the power we have as teachers in the lives of children.   Teaching skills, of course, is an important part of job, but establishing relationships and creating an atmosphere where all children feel valued is crucial.   Sometimes we have difficult children in our classrooms who can absolutely drive us crazy .  Especially with those children, it is very important that check ourselves and be sure that we are still treating those children with compassion and understanding.
