Ice Cream Activities for Rhyme and the Alphabet

The Ice Cream Cone activity for rhyme has certainly been a hit with my kinder friends last year that I decided it was time to add an alphabet activity as well. Spring Themed Math Activity- Bunny Addition

The Penguin Addition activity was such a hit that I thought I’d create a spring themed activity along the same line.  Goldfish crackers worked great as the manipulatives  for the penguins, but I just couldn’t find just the right manipulative for this activity until I stopped in at our local Walmart.  This package of foam stickers had just what I was looking for! Of course what I really wanted was only those small foam eggs, but the spring themed animals were so cute…I think I’ll be able to put them to good use. Of course you could use jelly beans as the manipulative, but I was afraid things could get a little sticky 🙂  These foam eggs were absolutely perfect.

Wild Old Words Phonics Bundle

So what are “Wild Old Words”?  Wild Old Words are “rule breaker” words.  Students are taught early on that a single vowel in a one syllable word is short, however, there is a small group of words that breaks that rule. These words are called Wild Old Words. It’s helpful to teach these words because they are pretty common, so if our student can recognize them right away, it’ll help them become fluent readers. When the vowels “i” and “o” are in a one syllable word that ends in “ld”, “nd”, “st”, or “lt” sometimes the vowel says it’s long name. There are a few examples below. If you’d like to download the FREE poster and word list, just click

Basketball Themed Sight Word Bundle

Go Green! Go White! If you recognize that chant you’re probably guessing that I’m a Michigan State fan. I just love college sports and basketball is one of my favorites.  March Madness just started and the MSU Spartans are one of the favored teams. Whether you have a team headed to the tournament or not, incorporating basketball themed activities in March may just spark a little bit of interest in our kiddos who either play or enjoy watching the sport.  This basketball themed bundle contains several hands-on activities for learning and practicing sight words (I use the Dolch 220 sight words). Just for a storage idea, I used these file folder containers purchased at Office Max. All the file folder game

Bunny Match Activities for Spring Themed Centers!

Spring is just around the corner and it certainly has been fun working on spring themed activities! Although we still have snow on the ground and a thin layer of ice on the lake, the sights and sounds of spring are now just beginning to make an appearance. The penguin alphabet match and the penguin CVC match activities were a definite hit during the winter months that many of my friends asked for a spring themed activity as well.  I thought a bunny themed activity would be a super cute substitute for that adorable penguin that Kyle (fabulous artist) created. The activities contain a self-checking feature which makes them ideal for use during independent centers. For the alphabet game, students

Lucky You! for Sight Words and CVC Words

I just love the Lucky You! activities for practicing sight words and words containing targeted phonics skill. This activity is perfect for St. Patrick’s themed centers.  To assemble the activity all you’ll need to do is print the cards single sided to double sided and then cut the cards along the dotted line. Now to play the game simply choose which and how many word cards to use. Place the cards word-side down on the table and have your students take turns choosing cards and reading words. If the player picks the “Lucky You!” card, he/she can choose two more cards. If the player picks the leprechaun card, well…. all the cards must be put back. The player with the
