Coin Sorting Freebie!

My little friend, Eleanor, is just learning the value of money. Sorting activities are the perfect first step in teaching money skills. It certainly helps children identify the differences in the coins.  Students first need to understand that the coins differ in size and shape and identify the coins before accurately count coin values. Although you can find plastic coins at any dollar store I’d recommend using real coins. It’s often difficult for our young learners to make that jump between the fake and the real money. Just click the following link to download the coin sorting template:  FREE Coin Sorting Template When teaching your students the coins you may wish to place posters within your classroom. Feel free to

ABC Order Penguins FREEBIE!

It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of December and we just received our very first substantial snowfall. This is so unusual for Northern Michigan. Typically the ski areas open by Thanksgiving and we’d be skating on the lake by now. It’s been a little difficult pulling out those winter themed activities without snow on the ground, but with this new snowfall, well… here we go. I love the winter months and especially love incorporating winter themed activities into centers. A few years ago my fabulous artist created these adorable penguins. They are perfect for a kindergarten literacy center for working on ABC order. Enjoy this FREEBIE! To download this freebie just click the following link: ABC Order Penguins Be sure

Mitten Match Activities for Rhyme and Beginning Sounds

These mitten match activities have certainly been a hit in early ed classrooms. It’s always fun to add a seasonal twist to activities and these mittens are perfect for winter themed centers. There are three sets- rhyme, beginning sounds and vocabulary. You can easily differentiate the activities by choosing which and how many mitten pairs to use.  When you download the file you’ll also receive a label. I print the labels on a full size Avery label, cut and then adhere to a baggie for storage. Just for added fun, have your students clip the mitten pairs together with clothespins. This adds a little fine motor practice too! To add a little color, put a strip of Washi tape on

Activities on the Go! Race Car Blending

It’s always so much fun to take a little trip to our local Habitat for Humanity restore. You never know treasures what you can find. When my kiddos were furnishing their college apartments and dorm rooms we were pretty much restore regulars. My girls are also big crafters and love to use recycled materials in their projects. Last year on one of our many trips to the store we came across these old VHS movies. We have tons in our basement too as they stored those old Disney favorites.  As we were going through the stacks traveling down memory lane, the idea of using the cases to store activities hit. What a great way to recycle and the activities would fit

DIY Christmas Memory Game

I always love walking the seasonal aisles of our local department stores looking for fun items that can be turned into an activity. I really love it when those items are on the inexpensive side. Last week as I cruising the Christmas section at Meijer I can across  these super cute gift tags. I thought they’d work great for a holiday themed memory game. I purchased four sets of 16 gift tags for this activity. These particular tags opened book-style so I just cut them in half.  Then I simply printed the printable below on a full size Avery label, cut and placed a letter or picture on the back of each card. That’s it! Super, super easy! To download this FREE printable

It’s an ITeach Kinder Linky Party!

One of the greatest benefits of social media is connecting with other educators from literally around the word.  There is so much that we can share and learn from each other.  I am so fortunate to be a part of the ITeach Kinder group started by Nicole & Eliceo (teachers from Mexico) earlier this year. It’s such a wonderful group of teachers dedicated to providing valuable information and resources. Nicole had a great idea for making it easier to share ideas and activities. We are now having monthly linky parties! The ITeach Kinder bloggers will all link up at the beginning of the month sharing their most favorite resources. Some resources may be seasonal in nature, others may be targeting a skill
