Winter Themed Number Activities Bundle

Oh my goodness! It’s mid November and the snow is just flying today. Fortunately it held off long enough so that I could get all the leaves off the yard. Not sure I’m super ready for winter, but I’m hoping that by pulling out all my winter themed activities I can get in the spirit. A few years back I created these winter themed number activities for kindergarten and first grade. This bundle is jam-packed with 12 hands-on winter themed activities perfect for math centers or for introducing math concepts in whole group.

Here’s a peek of what’s in the Winter Themed Early Numeracy Bundle:

Play Doh mats are one of my favorite hands-on activities for introducing basic number concepts. I’m pretty picky about my doh so I make my own using a common recipe that can be found on the internet. The trick is to make the doh using either alum or cream of tartar and the recipes that have you cook the ingredients are the best. I use the Wilton cake decorating coloring because the colors are more vibrant. To add a little wintery fun into my doh, I added glitter. Mats for the numbers 1-10 are included in this pack.

Number Formation

Number formation mats are also included in this winter themed number activities bundle. Simply laminate the mats and have your students practice writing numbers using a dry erase marker. Wipe clean and the mats can be used over and over again.

How Many?

I love how these “How Many?” winter-themed cards turned out. You can use the cards as single cards as my friend, Eleanor, is doing in the picture below or you can punch the cards and bind them together with a loose-leaf ring. Have your students count the number of winter themed items on the card and then write the number on the line. Once laminated the cards can be used forever!

Number Order

Another important skill introduced in kindergarten and first grade is number order. There are several differentiated number order activities. The Number Order Penguins activity contains 20 penguins for learning number order to 20.

Number order boards for numbers 1-10, 1-20 and 1-100 are provided for your students.

Addition Games

There are 5 different addition games and number recognition games included in this bundle. These games are ideal for independent math centers or for small group instruction when practicing addition.

The snowball fight addition game includes 4 game boards. Students take turns choosing a snowball from the pile and solving the addition problem. If the answer appears on their board, it is covered up with the snowball. The first player to fill their board wins the game.

Race to the Top

The Race to the Igloo has several variations. To work on addition, students take turns rolling 2 dice and adding them together and then moving the designated spaces. The first to igloo wins the game. To address number concepts, have your students use only one die and move the number of spaces rolled. The Race to the Top is another activity designed to work on both number concepts and number formation. Students take turns rolling the die and then writing the number in the correct column. The student who reaches the top of the column wins that column. The student with the most columns wins the game. Each activity includes directions to be printed!

Also included in this bundle are number word cards, number cards, and ten-frames to 20.

Storing activities can be a challenge. If you choose to store your Winter Theme Early Numeracy activities in baggies or in separate containers, I’ve included labels for each activity.
